Broom WI

Broom Women's Institute

Broom Women's Institute meets on the first Thursday of the month at the Village Hall at 7.30pm.

We are a small group that enjoys various events arranged for the whole year.

In 2017 we have enjoyed a variety of excellent speakers at our monthly meetings. We entered teams in Studley WI and Warwickshire Federation quizzes. Members have attended Serious Science lectures and a course on the use of an ipad. Two of our members spend two days at the WI Denman College in June doing a literature course on the life and work of author “Miss Read”. We have joined Warwickshire Federation trips to the BBC studios at Salford Quays and to Leicester to visit the site of “The King under the Carpark” (Richard III). We joined the Bluebell Walk along the canals at Lapworth. We visited Jean Cholerton’s nature reserve at Cranhill. In August went to Chastleton House, a National Trust property, near Moreton in Marsh.

Our Christmas meal was held at The Fish at Wixford on a cold and icy night. Our ladies braved the conditions and we had a lovely evening. We had our usual Christmas Craft Workshop, making tree decorations, followed by a festive buffet at our December meeting.

2018 is the centenary of the Warwickshire Federation of Women’s Institutes. It will be a very busy year for all the WIs in the county. Broom WI will be playing its own small part in the celebrations and will also be joining in with bigger events organised by the Federation. 2018 will be an exciting year.

Brenda our President or Helen our Secretary would be only too pleased to answer any queries you may have. We would be delighted to hear from you.

This friendly group always concludes our meetings socially with refreshments, so we can get to know one another and expanding our friendships.
