Safe and Well visits

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service’s proactive initiative designed to reduce the risk of accidental fires and keep our community safe.

So, what exactly are Safe and Well Visits?

These visits are a free service provided by our highly trained firefighters and members of the Prevention Team, who will visit your home to check for potential fire hazards, offer personalised fire safety advice, and provide assistance in creating a fire escape plan. These visits not only help prevent fires but also ensure that you and your loved ones are prepared in the event of an emergency.

But why do we do them?

The answer is simple: to protect and support our community. By proactively identifying and addressing fire risks in homes, we can prevent tragedies before they occur. We believe that prevention is always better than cure, and Safe and Well Visits are a key part of our commitment to keeping Bidford residents safe.

We encourage members of the Bidford community to request a Safe and Well Visit, but we especially urge the most vulnerable residents to take advantage of this service. Whether you are elderly, have mobility issues, or simply have concerns about fire safety in your home, we are here to help.

To request a Safe and Well Visit, simply contact Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service and schedule an appointment at your convenience. Our friendly and experienced team will work with you to ensure that your home is safe and secure, giving you peace of mind and confidence in your fire safety measures.

Fire Safety message for residents

Smoke Alarms
Having a working smoke alarm on every level of your home could save your life. They require little maintenance and should be tested every week to ensure that the batteries are working, replace batteries when needed and never remove the battery for any other purpose.

Escape Plan

Every household should have an escape plan which all family members are aware of to know what to do in the event of a fire. Ensure that your escape routes are clear and also consider a plan for safety if your escape route is blocked. Make sure that you have a phone/means to call for help if needed. If there are children in the house, check that they know their address to be able to advise control handlers of the address of the emergency. Practice your escape plan so that you all know what to do. Get out, stay out and call 999 for the fire service, do not go back inside for any reason.

If you are trapped in the home, call for assistance by ringing 999 and requesting the fire service. It is advisable to block the bottom of the door with bedding and clothing to help prevent smoke from entering the room. Go to the window and shout for help. Only escape from a window if you are in immediate danger, throw out bedding/mattress and lower yourself rather than jump from the window.
